Weekend with the Host Family

This weekend I was with my host family that I lived with in 2013 as an Au-pair. After moving back to Europe, I haven't had a chance to see them until now. Which is actually crazy because I just live down the road from them. After the year with living with them you can say you get really close. Good days and Bad days, we have had them all. And I am so happy that we are still in touch.

Over the past four year I have been receiving a lot of messages on how I became an Au-Pair and how I connected with my host family. I actually heard about Au-pairing from my uncle who brought it up once. And one day, I just went online, googled (what I do for everything) "Au-pair." Tons of different websites came up and blogs of people living that lifestyle. So I made a profile on and started interviewing up to 25 families from around the globe. Not until I had the Skype call with my host mom did I know that she was the one I wanted to work for. We connected and I felt beyond comfortable with my decision. It just all felt right. But I must also give a warning out too, there are also not so nice families, so if you have a bad feeling. Don't say yes to working for them. There are a ton of amazing families that will make you feel like you are one of them and not a servant.

Anyways fast-forward four years to now and I am still in love with the family more than ever. This weekend they had me come along to a family hiking gathering to have a picnic on the mountains. Beer and delicious food & good company! Happy to still have these beautiful people in my life.

If you have any questions about being Au-pairing don't hesitate to comment or email me. Would love to give you more information!
